Permit Department

It is the intent of the Amity Township Board of Supervisors to promote the general health, safety and welfare of the citizens of the Township and to conform to the requirements of the Pennsylvania Construction Code Act and the regulations of the Act promulgated by the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry.

On June 29, 2004 Amity Township elected to administer and enforce the provision of the Pennsylvania Construction Code and the Uniform Construction Code 35 P.S. 7210.101-7210.1103 as amended.

Ordinance #309 adopted the UCC and amended some provisions and requirements as to work that requires a building permit. This table provides a brief summary of what types of improvements, alterations and repairs require a permit, per Amity Township Ordinances.

 

A Sewer Lateral and I&I inspection are required for the resale of any improved property connected to the public sewer system; however, No U&O Inspection required for resale of Residential Properties.

Any change of use or occupancy of a commercial building
Changing the existing grades of a property
Decks
Demolition of a structure or underground tank
Driveways (new or extension)
Fences
Garages (attached or detached)
Gazebos
Greenhouses
New homes
New storm water piping
No-impact home-based business
Patios
Pools (24″deep and greater)
Public Sidewalk/Curb Replacement
Sheds
Signs

Accessory structures greater that 500 SF
Pools where water depth is greater than 24″ deep
Additions
Finishing a basement
Decks over 30″ above grade or supported by a dwelling
Commercial repairs, additions, improvements and alterations
New dwellings or buildings
Roofs over patios
Adding windows or doors in a load bearing wall of a dwelling
Any change of occupancy to a commercial building
Signs at commercial properties
Temporary structures
Mechanical additions such as piping, wiring, lighting, heating and cooling
Replacing any guard (railing) where deck is 30″ or more above grade
Removing wood decking and installing composite decking

Replacing an existing window or door with one of the same size 
Roof replacement on a residential structure 
Siding replacement 
Retaining walls not over 4′ high 
Lawn irrigation systems 
Residential swings and playgrounds 
Pools where water depth is less than 24″ deep 
Gutters and downspouts 
Appliance replacement 
Security systems 
Propane or liquefied petroleum appliances and associated piping 
Painting, papering, tiling, carpeting, cabinets, counter tops and similar finish work 
Resurfacing or sealing driveways 
Replacing a furnace with the same size and same type
Replacing any guard (railing) where deck is less than 30″ above grade
Removing decking and installing new decking of same material and size
Replacing a fence with the same height and in same location
